What Are The Diseases Treated By Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system or medicine with a wide range of applications. A doctor who combines Western scientific medicine with acupuncture can therefore select the most appropriate treatment in any particular case and will be able to treat a great variety of diseases in any part or system of the body (including certain mental conditions) in the way best calculated to give results.

Purely structural damage, such as a broken bone, cannot be dealt with by acupuncture. Whether a particular patient can or cannot be successfully treated depends on many individual factors including the severity and duration of his disease and the amount and type of damage it has caused.

Below is a list of more common conditions treated. The easier ones have a higher degree of success than the more difficult, but at times the seemingly impossible may be helped, while the easy may prove intractable.

General Health

Many patients who have been treated by acupuncture notice an improvement in their general health. This is because acupuncture can correct those minor disturbances in health which may be undetected by other methods of diagnosis and which if they remain untreated could in later years easily turn into a serious overt and easily recognised disease. The sensitivity of Chinese pulse diagnosis (see section on preventive medicine), makes it possible to detect minor disturbances, enabling immediate treatment to be given at an early stage.
